Every year there are about 40,000 new HIV infections throughout the United States with about 450 of those infections happening within San Diego County alone.
We also continue to see that Latinos, African-Americans and the LGBT communities are the most disproportionately affected groups regarding new infections. This is one of the reasons why San Ysidro Health continues to be on the forefront advocating for increased HIV testing within these communities.
San Ysidro Health currently offers free, rapid HIV testing in two of our sites. The rapid HIV test looks for antibodies to the virus and it is important to note that it takes 3 to 6 months after being exposed to HIV to show up on the rapid test. These tests are offered in a safe and confidential atmosphere and you receive your results in just 20 minutes.
